If we find ourselves eating more than we normally would, or making food choices that we later regret, perhaps eating more mindfully could help. To avoid overindulging in food and drink, focus on how you want to feel, for example, energised, lighter, calmer and healthier. Then eat more consciously and mentally ask yourself: ‘Body, is that what you want?’ before consuming the food or drink. Allowing gaps between main meal and dessert, if you are having one, helps to be mindful; it is more likely that following a pause we might not wish to eat more once our brain had time to register we are full.
